UK Champion Skier Chemmy Alcott

Britain’s number one female ski racer Chemmy Alcott is a lot faster on the piste than most skiers because she was using the Power Plate® machine to help her get in prime condition for the slopes.

Chemmy, 26, represented Britain in the World Cup Ladies’ Alpine Ski and 4 Olympics and was ranked 16th in the world during the 2007-2008 competition season.

She can reach speeds of up to 90mph on the slopes but her racing was bought to a halt when she broke her ankle while training in Canada in November 2008.

Team head coach Mark Tilston incorporated training on the Power Plate® machine into Chemmy’s fitness regime and it has become an important part of her return to form.

“It has been very helpful in recovery and rehab and we have used it a great amount for recovery sessions and massage,” says Chemmy. Mark says the Power Plate® machine was chosen because its excellent range of vibration frequency helps Chemmy achieve maximum strength development. “The Power Plate® machine contributed to Chemmy’s intensive rehabilitation programme including body awareness and recovery. Chemmy got back to fitness and carried on skiing until retiring after Sochi in 2014. Training on the Power Plate® machine is the ideal way for champion athletes and amateurs alike to prepare for the piste, as it can help reduce the risk of injuries by improving stability and balance, as well as strengthening the core and leg muscles.

These targeted classes include exercises designed especially to strengthen the legs and core, as well as assisting with balance.

While most people won’t have their sights set on competing in the next Winter Olympics like Chemmy did, they can still take their cue from her by preparing for alpine action with the help of the Power Plate® machine.

What's it all about?

Simple The Power Plate consists of a vibrating platform upon which you perform all sorts of moves under the direction of a trained instructor.

It's low impact so there's no strain on joints, so it's good for anyone regardless of their age or ability.

The vibrations mean that your muscles work harder than in traditional strength training, and therefore your training time can be cut.

The best bit is that the classes are small, 4/6 people per 1 instructor, thereby minimizing the chance of injury, but helping to prefect your technique and allowing bespoke training for you.

Plate is based on a sound scientific principle which is so strong that many professional athletes swear by the machine.

How hard is it?

The moves themselves are not difficult, but different instructors will tell you different things about the required intensity of your workout.

That’s the beauty of having the smaller class, it means we have time for you to either change an exercise, correct technique or motivate you because you have had one of those days.

I heard many a story along the lines of: 'simply stand on the plate and lose weight'.

Well, it's not quite that easy!

At Body Vibes Shawsbridge we incorporate Boxing, kettlebells and free weights into workouts which will give you the best fat burning and toning results.

You will be glad when the class is over and ecstatic at the calorie burn but that 20-minute impact keeps working for that 48 hour after burn of even more calories!

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is one of the most talked about fitness trends and combined with Power Plates you have one powerful fitness and toning class.

Is it fun?

It’s defiantly not boring, most places don't have a cardio workout on the Power Plate but at Body Vibes we use the machines to their full capacity.

I believe that fitness is something we should enjoy and look forward to, and not be a chore that we dread.

I love basketball and have competed at national league level for the Doncaster Danum Eagles.

Coaching fitness classes I have found it extremely rewarding to be able to help people that want to improve themselves.

Seeing absolute beginners in fitness overcome hurdles and become more body aware and empowered through fitness is something I really enjoy, for this they always get my full support and attention.

I particularly enjoy weightlifting exercises, as I also teach crossfit. Using my past experiences I try to incorporate different training systems into the training I give at Body Vibes.

Through an Interest in Fitness I founded Body Vibes in 2010, as I wanted to help people of all levels achieve their own fitness goals.
